Asakusa - A1 Apollo Space Patrol made in Japan            ultra rare toy !!
Well besides that this is perhaps one of the most rare and scarce spacetoys ever made in the golde age... there are some things to tell and mention about this one so.. .here we go....
First, I have NO idea when or exactly in what year this one was made. looking at the toys mechanism ( it works with light sensitive cells ) its made in the late sixties.
Impressive big space ship ( length is a whopping 45 CM ) made out of lithographed tin with a HUGE plastic dome that houses 2 astronauts.
to keep the toy stable in outer space, there are big fins attached as well :)
The toy is battery operated ( runs on 3 D-Cells and one 9-Volt battery block ). The 3 D-cells power the drivetrain, the 9volt block the light sensitive sensors that are hidden in the antenna.
The action is as follows: when you point a light beam on the antenna, the toy changes direction as long as the antenna receives light. works a bit just like sonicon rocket but then with light instead of sound.
I found this toy years ago and it has been in my collection ever since. The toy was missing some parts.. the top blue fin, the grey antenna, the red lights in front and the round plate that goes around the front wheel.  I was lucky that i finally had the change to get access to a complete example so that i could draw the missing parts in 3D cad and print them.
so.. after all those years.. the toy is complete again. not in working order anymore as I did not even try.. the antenna ( grey antenna ) is 3D printed and does not have the light sensitive cells. also the blue fin on top, the red lights and the cover of the frontwheel at the bottom are 3D printed. they are exact copies of the original parts.
The overall condition is very good to excellent. there are some minor corrosion spots and also the inside of the battery cover has some...
like mentioned before the toy is not in working order anymore. some of the parts as mentioned here above are 3D printed reproductions. Plz refer to the pictures for the condition of this toy.
One of the most rare and scarce space toys of the golden age....extremely hard to find in any condition !
