Description
Winston-Salem Dash (Chicago White Sox High A minor league affiliate in the now dissolved Carolina League) “Play Ball” Program dated Friday May 3, 2013. The cover features Dash outfielder Courtney Hawkins. The cover opens up to a three-panel full color gatefold featuring an action shot of Hawkins at the plate, swinging (and probably missing). The program is printed on slick medium stock and measures 8.5” x 5.25”. It has not been written in or marked. The pages are clean with crisp, bright colors throughout. The scorecard was unused. We believe the program would grade at mint to near-mint.
The program includes a brief profile of future major leaguer Chris Beck. Other future major league players pictured or listed on the Dash roster on pages 8 and 9 include Chris Bassitt, Kevan Smith and Daniel Webb. The Dash opponent that day was the Salem Red Sox (Boston Red Sox High A affiliate), and as noted on pages 15 and 16 of the program, their roster included future major leaguer Blake Swihart.
Courtney Hawkins was a first round draft choice (13
th
overall selection) by the Chicago White Sox in 2012. He showed a world of promise, and the White Sox had 2.5 million reasons to want to see him succeed. But promise and raw talent never translated to as much as a cup of coffee in the major leagues. The majors aside, Hawkins spent nine seasons (2012-2020) bouncing around at every level of professional ball, from rookie leagues to AAA to Independent to foreign leagues. Technically, he is a free agent, so you never know – he may soon be appearing at a ballpark near you.
